sputnik

I wrote a post about a guy called fusionman the other day, with some advice from Daedalus and Icarus (stay away from the sun!). Now I notice there's a guy with the nickname sputnik doing a similar thing- flying unassisted at 250km/h.

In the Metamorphoses when Daedalus creates wings to help him and his son escape from Crete, Ovid comments that he is 'changing nature' (naturam novat); it's not natural for people to fly, but it seems like there are a few people out there who just won't accept that.

i must've missed that post on fusionman and now that i've read it, im glad to know that i'm not the only one who wishes to fly. honestly, for me, it's something worth dying for. i agree it's unnatural in a sense but technology amazes us all. it will continue to be deemed 'unnatural' until society accepts it (like all things in this world). in fact, i have noticed you've labelled this blog with 'crazies'- to that, no comment.

Oh dear, you would want that, wouldn't you, Ms. Dirtbag?

And sir -- you say it's "changing nature", and "not natural", but really, when you think about it, neither is wearing clothing. Or staying indoors when it rains. "Nature" and the definition of "nature" has altered as society has. Who's to say that in a few years it won't become "natural" for humanity to fly?

And crazies, Sir? That's a little... discriminatory, isn't it? People say the same thing about us for doing Latin...

Why Joel, what clever students you have. Are you girls doing In The Wild or something?
